When property values go down - so too can your property taxes.
The tax assessors' office evaluates market changes and really does
a good job of making sure taxes are lowered to what is reasonable
for your property. However, sometimes the market sinks quickly in
one area more than another or just after the assessment was done.
So, our all knowing and powerful tax people built in an appeals
process to apply for temporarilly reduced taxes if you can prove
that the value of you property is less than assessor thinks it is.
For Sacramento County the appeal period begins in July 2 through
November 30. If you have questions you can email, call or write
the assessor's
office.
